What Child Labor Was Like

Back in 1911 people of almost all ages had to work in factories. Some people had to work at the age of 5 or 6. It was hard for all those kids and adults. It was very dangerous because some people lost fingers, toes, and sometimes a whole limb. People even died because of tuberculosis, which was caused by all the smoke and dust. They only got paid 10-15 cents an hour just to buy food for their families, and if you even a second late you would be fired. People had to get up so early like at 3:00 am. People and kids also had to work 12-14 hours. The boys who were 12 had to work with coal, and sometimes fell into to the coal and got either badly injured or killed. The girls had to work with machines and lost limbs or got killed. The kids also built up several injuries. I’m glad I wasn’t born during that time.
